Chelsea Supporters Trust Newsletter April 2013

Chelsea Supporters Trust Newsletter April 2013

Those concerned with the initial formation of the Chelsea Supporters Trust have been busy working to create a sound footing on which to take the Trust forward following the successful launch event in February. Members of the Trust Working Group continue to meet on a monthly basis to discuss issues such as the roles that will need to be filled in order to take the Trust forward, not only on a temporary basis in the run up to the Annual General Meeting in August, but also for the period that will follow the election of members to the Board.  Another hot topic of discussion has been the badge featuring the Trust logo which will be sent to all members once it’s been produced.  If proof were needed that size isn’t everything, the Working Group’s consensus turned out to be that small is in fact beautiful, and we’re all certain that the finished badge will be a proud addition to any supporter’s match day gear.

The cfcuk stall opposite Fulham Broadway tube station is always a hub for the Trust on match day; with members of the Working Group on hand to discuss any queries that that Trust members have, and also giving supporters a further chance to join up.  The recent home game against Sunderland saw the Working Group in and around the stadium en masse, distributing leaflets promoting the Trust.  Pubs around SW6 were also a target for the Working Group, who used their time to engage with supporters, telling them how becoming a voting member would enable them to participate in forthcoming surveys and, of course, vote in August’s crucial AGM.

Referring to the survey, work on this is being finalised even as this newsletter is being written.  The Working Group have spent a lot of time on this over the last couple of months in order to identify a blend of questions which will enable the Trust to produce its mandate which, ultimately, Trust members will be the ones to approve. It’s your Trust – we need to know what you’re thinking!

In the meantime, preparations are being made for the first Special General Meeting of the Trust which will be held on Sunday 28th April, after the Swansea City game.  The Working Group hopes that many of you will attend the meeting which will give you the opportunity to meet members of the Working Group in person and give them your first impressions of what the future direction of the Trust will be. Do remember that in order to attend the meeting you need to be a voting member of the Trust. If you haven’t taken that final step to becoming a full member, you can either join the Trust via the website, or you can join on the door on the day – only a fiver, hurry up!

For those who are unable to attend the SGM in person, the Trust are hoping to broadcast the meeting live, dependent on the Wi-Fi signal, via the Chelsea FanCast site on MIXLR. If you go to www.mixlr.com/chelsea-fancast at 17.45 on Sunday 28th April you should be able to listen to the meeting and contribute by posting on the MIXLR site. MIXLR can also be downloaded as an IPhone App so you can listen on your phone.

Finally, we were absolutely delighted last week to hear that the Pompey Trust had been successful in their efforts to take over Portsmouth FC.  They’ve had a long, hard road to travel, but its further evidence of how influential Trusts are rapidly becoming in English football. It’s also a huge achievement for Supporters Direct, who have been pivotal in helping us set up our own Trust.

We’ll be back next month with all the news from your Chelsea Supporters Trust.
